What to Send & Where to Get It:

Read the posts of the Soldiers on the "Where To Send" page. Jot down a few names and what they want. Also try clicking on the highlighted words in their 'updates'. Return here and find the items from our sponsors. All the sponsors on this page offer discounts or some other benefit to AnySoldier.com supporters.

This is about SUPPORT, not just STUFF!
A LETTER, from you, your children, the kids at church or school, is THE BEST THING to send.

A show of personal support is far better than spending a bunch of money that you don't have.
The letter in the box IS more important than the box itself.
But, if you want to help by sending something, we suggest using these folks:

    Cool Things To Send:

  • Beanie Babies!
No kidding! A really good excuse to get rid of those things (don't buy new ones, collect them from your house and ask your friends)!! Send some in every package to ALL units as they are really easy for the Soldiers to carry with them and give to the local kids who love them. These are better then small plastic toys which will break easily and are not as easy to carry in a pack. There is NO more effective ambassador for our country than a Soldier helping the local folks. This is done far more often then the press shows, and quite probably the most important thing a Soldier will ever do. This picture is from CWO3 Edward Jimenez's unit in Afghanistan. You folks sent the toys this Marine is handing to the child.

  • Dunkin Donuts donates the coffee
Passed on by supporter Kelly Bishop on 4 Mar 05:
Dunkin Donuts will send a case (24 one pound bags) to service members serving in Iraq. Dunkin Donuts donates the coffee and pays all the shipping costs.
    Go to www.dunkindonuts.com
    Fill out the form.
Put the soldiers name and APO address.
    Click on "submit"
They are getting a lot of requests so it may take a little time.
You can also write with the same info to:
    Dunkin Brands
    130 Royall Street
    Canton, MA 02121
Or call customer relations at 781-737-3000 (they are very friendly and helpful)

    From Dunkin' Donuts:
Dunkin' Brands, Inc. supports the brave men and woman of the United States military.
We are honored to send a taste of home to our troops overseas. We will hold a monthly lottery to randomly select 50 military members among those requests submitted. Each will receive a case of Dunkin' Donuts coffee. We will limit the offer to those who have not previously received any coffee. Please understand that because of the volume of requests, only recipients will be notified.

  • Flea Collars
    See this.

    Tips and Hints:

  • There is NO guarantee you will get a reply from the Soldier that got your package. However, if you want to increase your chances of getting a reply, pre-address an envelope to yourself, a few pieces of paper, a pen and put them in your package. No need for a stamp on the envelope. In your letter to the Soldier which you also put in the box, ask him/her to drop you a quick note or more and ask if there is anything in particular you can send. Better chance you get a reply with that...
  • Each Soldier's page has "Restrictions to this address: Here (4)". Click on the "Here" and it tells you what you can't send. If you aren't sure about something, DON'T SEND IT! Please, do NOT be afraid to send stuff. Easy test: Would you send (whatever) to your mother?
  • "As you might know, on occasion the Iraqi's have no problem supplying movie DVD's at a fraction of the cost back home. What you are not aware of is the fact that those movies are stolen off the bases and sold back to the soldiers. I recommend that when you supply that information to those who send packages and to the soldiers/Marines whom apply for items to be sent in, that they mark the movies to prevent unscrupulous individuals from benefiting from the unwary." Colonel, USMC.
We strongly suggest that if you send any CDs or DVDs, use a permanent magic marker and simply put "AnySoldier.com" on both the cover and CD/DVD. It won't take long before these won't be a target anymore... -Marty
  • Remember the many women Soldiers there! If your package is intended for a woman, be sure to address the package, "Attn: Any Female Soldier".

  • T-Shirts must be Brown for Army (Tan for the new digital uniform, the 'ACU') and Navy, Green for Marines, Sand for Air Force. If the troops ask for t-shirts but don't specify the color, write to them before you send any and ask them.

  • Marine boot socks are black. White athletic socks for PT and sometimes under the boot socks. Scarves are not authorized unless issued, but this is normally 'command discretion'. Beanie caps are not issued but are often worn under a helmet at night, must be dark color.

  • The Air Force in deployed locations no longer wears BDUs.
It is now the ABUs with Sand color T-shirts (Much like the Army)
And the socks are the dark green socks the Army uses.
We still use the DCUs also for a few more months/years from now.
We are still authorized BDUs out of the AOR tho. (Info from SrA Sterne, thanks!!)

  • 14 April 2006: Hot note: Popular clothing off-limits to Marines in Iraq

  • ALL items which contain liquids and pastes (even in cans), put in a zip-lock bag, and a second one up-side-down from the first one. If an item can leak, it will.
